Yesterday I had fairies on the brain (don't ask :P), so I did some searches online for the same. I came upon an enchanting site called The Faery Crossing which has all you wanted to know about Faeries. =)

Kitty Update and Con Ramblings

Tigger's okay. =) We paid the ER vet a call on Sunday. I won't go into the specifics on that, but those of you who know Tiggy will have major sympathy for the vet, her assistant, and Tigger himself. Stressed is the polite way to describe my cat when he goes for a vet visit. At least now we know it's nothing devastating (arthritis) and his claws have been clipped. ;-)

Gone Fishin’

Although it means missing the opportunity to tape the Lion Dance ... again, I opted not to head to Chinatown’s New Year’s celebrations today. It’s too cold, and I’d have to catch an early bus inorder to be in Boston on time. If it weren’t so cold, I could justify standing there with my camcorder and hanging out ‘til the next train back, but the weather report says otherwise. *sigh*

Plus, Tiggy’s foot is ... well, not quite right, and I want to keep an eye on him today. I know the vet told my sister to wait a few days, but when I came home last night and saw him, I understood why my sister had described his foot as twisted and the limping as scary. He isn’t behaving any differently, and his foot/ leg doesn’t appear to hurt him, but still ... Dislocation keeps popping into my head, as does a dozen other possibilities. :-(

Yesterday was good, though it didn’t start that way, what with first my sister’s phone call (What happened to the cat’s leg?) and then my mother’s call (There’s a car up on the sidewalk ... and ambulances ... and lots of police cars ...). Work, however, wasn’t as bad as it could’ve been for a busy Saturday and afterwards was Chick Day. Never ate at Bugaboo Creek before. The food was tasty and the talking moose was fun, but I hadn’t realized it was a steak house, and I wasn’t in a meaty sorta mood. Still, I enjoyed lunch and even more so L.’s frightened confession when we first parked (I’ve never eaten moose before). I liked the movie, too, and no one kicked the backs of our seats, so that was a bonus. (Of course, J. sat in the only broken seat in the row but never said a word ‘til it was all over. She’s a patient soul.) The ending was well done, and like that Johnny Depp movie we saw in the Previews says The only thing that matters is the ending ... or something like that. If the ending is weak, then there’s no satisfaction for the viewer. Actually, I don’t agree competely with that statement because the beginning sets the tone and the middle tells the story, so they’re just important ... but anyway ... I’d recommend Big Fish to everyone and would like to see it again.

One of the topics discussed at lunch was Escapade, and I have to admit swinging from optomistic to pessismistic and back again on a regular basis (and this time was no different). Please, if you’re reading this & considering signing up and you have any questions or concerns or suggestions or comments in general, let me know! I’d really like to hear from you.

Year of the Monkey

I'm a little excited because I might actually make the Chinese New Year celebrations in Chinatown in Boston this year! I've missed it *every year* that I've wanted to go. This year I might actually get there! yay!

Weekend in New York

Friday morning I received a watch and ... something else ... for my birthday. (faulty memory) During the day, my email box received a few ecards. When I arrived home, I had a card waiting from my Dad. That night we blew out candles and enjoyed a double layer chocolate cake with strawberries.

Saturday, L. and I traveled to NYC where we met Trinity (S.), Dargo (I.) and ZGirl (L.H.) at Penn and then headed a few blocks over to play Lazer Tag! While waiting for our turn, we fed quarters to the video games and had a Tekken 4 challenge of sorts. S. has Nina’s moves down. lol Lazer Tag itself was awesome. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would (even though it was hot in those vests!) ... Although I’d been warned to hold down the front buttons while pulling the trigger (otherwise the shot won’t register), I kept forgetting to do so during Game One. lol Game Two’s scores were better. Green Team lost. Trinity, Dargo, and ZGirl were on the Red Team and actually had a good strategy for playing. I was on Green Team. We just went out there and hoped for the best. lol

It was my first time, and I’d love to do it again, maybe with more people. =)

We put on our best Charlie’s Angels poses (hee) in front of the briefing room (blame it on dehydration? *g*) before we searched out food and drink.

Dinner was at Planet Hollywood where service was not up to snuff, but I still enjoyed my Cobb Salad and had a great time anyway. Afterwards we made our way into Brooklyn where our host and hostess (I. and birthday girl S.) provided treats and drinks and a chocolate cheesecake birthday cake for me and S. (yum!) :D (I also got a cool little book of quotes from L.H.) We watched “Bringing Down the House” and “Galaxy Quest” before conking out around 3:30am.

Sunday was leisurely and relaxing. We woke up late (well, all except for poor I. who had to go to work) and watched a video of some Ty Treadway clips that L. had brought with her. Before we ventured to breakfast (Junior’s), I had the pleasure of reading one of the screenplays that S. is working on. She’s a talented writer from what I read, though I hope to look at it more closely soon.

We figured we’d be cutting it close if we went to Port Washington and decided to save that for another visit. The remaining hours before L. and my train was spent at the Manhattan Mall where we walked around a bit before sitting and chatting. S. & L.H. escorted us back to Penn, so L. & I could wait for our train (which was a little delayed, yet we still arrived at our destination on time).

Oh, and another present ... last Sunday, my sisters gave me a digital camcorder! :D

Sad news ... my grandmother is back in the nursing home, for good now. She required more care at home than my uncle could handle alone, and my grandmother, being the independent woman that she is in spirit, wouldn’t cooperate with the caregivers that came to help.

A little on conventions ...

My Scaper Con report is available for your perusal here. It’s more of a personal diary of the weekend and may not be of interest to everyone (which is why I have a Photos Only section). *g*

The wonderful Blue Lady committee will be taking a much needed rest in 2004 and “Scaper Con” will not be held, *but* there are several smaller Scaper conventions proposed around the country for next year, organized by fans. So far I know of two, one on each coast of the U.S. Wormhole West will be held in San Francisco in the Fall of 2004. They plan on inviting Farscape guests to their convention. A smaller, fans only (ie, no guests!) convention is being planned on the East Coast. Escapade, a fan-run Farscape convention based in Boston, will be held June 24-27, 2004. Season's Greetings to everyone! :D

My grandmother is coming home from the hospital tomorrow, so the the traditional Christmas Eve celebrations will continue as planned! yay! Hopefully, I'll be out of work early enough in the day tomorrow that I can accomplish some wrapping before joining family at the party. *g*

Somehow I must coordinate a get-together with three friends who'll be in the area. Sounds easy, doesn't it? Yet nothing is ever as easy as it should be. Ah well, it'll be worth it in the end. ;)

The filming of the Farscape miniseries is a wonderful Christmas present for all Scapers yet I'm a bit dismayed by the lack of publicity. Instead of Farscape Commences Filming in Oz!, I've been hearing about World Idol and the fact that no one will be watching it ... that's what I hear anyway. Maybe the entertainment media is waiting for the Henson announcement which hasn't happened yet. Hope is the seasonal theme and one ever present in Farscape; it's what, imho, motivates Scapers. So, I guess I'll hope. I hope that there's a buzz and the cast & crew get some long overdue attention and accolades. I hope the ratings soar through the roof. I hope it leads to challenging roles for the cast and exciting jobs for the crew. Whatever happens, I'm excited that it's happening so soon, and somehow I feel vindicated. :)

This morning was spent shooing Tigger away from the tree. Usually he goes after tinsel, ribbon, and really shiny bows, so those items were left off the tree and the presents. This morning he decides he will eat the tree anyway. Mind you, it's a fake tree, and the cat is desperately chewing on it. Then when he is scolded (because tree-eating tends to lead him into wrapping paper ripping), he pauses and looks at me with his big, round eyes as if to say Who me? I'm not doing anything. He even got sneaky and slid through the presents to behind the tree where I can't see him as well. I hear rustle, crinkle, munch, look up, and he's nowhere to be found. I call him and suddenly the noises stop. I approach the tree and peer through the branches (it may be fake, but it's a *big* tree) and see him standing ever so still. *g* Occasionally he looks up through the branches, then straight ahead again, unmoving, probably hoping I wouldn't notice him. It was too cute, so I gave up and went back to getting ready for work. I'm a bit fearful as to what condition the tree and gifts will be in when I get home. *bg*

Let it Snow ...

The first real snowfall of Fall/Winter in New England dumped around 24 inches on my little town over the weekend. Luckily the office where I work closed Saturday in anticipation of the weather. *g* Saturday was very windy, and the snow came down heavy. Sunday was a bit warmer, probably due to slower winds. I spent an hour or two Saturday afternoon shoveling; same for Sunday morning. Imagine shoveling the driveway, the walkway, the stairs, then unburying the cars, thinking you’re done, then ... wha? the driveway, the walkway, and the stairs all need to be shoveled out again. lol

One of my neighbors suggested the town (or someone) should provide a Coffee Truck (similar to an Ice Cream truck in the summer time) to drive through the streets on these wintery days, selling coffee. *vbg* I think that’s a great idea. lol

We took a walk downtown to a local store at the end of our street to pick up snacks. It must’ve been a sight to see. Not much is cleared from the streets or sidewalks, and there are mountainous snow bank mounds separating those on the street from those on the sidewalk. Climbing the snow banks brought back memories. lol

Today I am babysitting Ella instead of going into work. Yay! =)

That’s the happy news. The sad news is another great uncle passed away. The wake was Thursday and Friday (which I, of course, missed due to work and not knowing about it on time); the burial was Saturday, during the storm .. though it might have been delayed due to the snow (?) .. I don’t really know how these things work.

Saturday I also had the pleasure of watching really bad anime (not adult anime - the kind that’s geared toward teens). Well, I only watched it for a few minutes, and it was bad in the sense that the cartoon was mostly voiceovers and panning over stills. There wasn’t much actual animation. (Hey! I can do that!)

Then I watched a bit of “Little Bill” which is a sweet, fun, cartoon for kids.

Happy Thanksgiving

Though it was questionable at one point (an argument over defrosting in the microwave was avoided -- don’t ask), yesterday turned out to be a wonderful Thanksgiving day. My mother, sister and I enjoyed a selection of side dishes instead of a big, old turkey. We watched the Macy Day Parade, Miracle on 34th Street and then Shogun on DVD. Unfortunately, our RCA cables went kaputt on us today, and so the Shogun DVD was viewed on the Playstation 2 machine. :-)

Thursday morning I was awoken with a phone call from a friend in Texas wishing us a Happy Thanksgiving. She always remembers, no matter where she is. *g* I need to plan a visit out to Austin before she moves again. ;-)

Wednesday was a lovely visit from my little niece and a phone call from daddio. Another sis was supposed to come for Thanksgiving, but she had car problems and couldn’t make the drive. *sniff* Of course, had she come Wednesday, she would’ve only had to rush back the next afternoon because she had to work Thursday! (poor Sherbert)

Boston Ballet’s The Nutcracker is playing at the Wang Theatre until the end of the December, and then the annual tradition will be no more! The Radio City Christmas Spectacular will be at the Wang for the next five years (or something like that). I have to make sure I get my family there this year. I don’t think many of them (if any of them) have seen Boston Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker!

Shelly Awards

The Shelly Awards are the first ever Farscape fan video awards! Nominations are being accepted until December 20th. After that, the voting will begin. :D

Nominations for the Sparkys (fan fiction awards) continue until January 10, 2004.

Unless you haven't been online much (or you don't read TV Guide, the Chicago Tribune, or USA Today, or you don't watch CNN HLN), you know that the rumors of a Farscape miniseries are true! You know what that means? We did it! More Farscape! Woo hoo! :D Of course, we're still waiting on the official announcement from Jim Henson Productions, and there are no further details ath this time. This is fantastic news, and in conjunction with the Corporate Sponsor Announcement on SFS.com, it's generating a lot of excitement in the campaign. One of the goals (other than more Farscape) has always been to grow the viewing audience. Between the Military Project and other efforts, when the miniseries airs, there should be some noticable Neilsen ratings! :D

I *had* hoped for more mainstream press and entertainment news re: Farscape recently, but maybe it'll come with the Henson announcement at some point. (Enough with who was voted off "Survivor" and who "The Bachelor" is going to marry! I want to see some mention of John and Aeryn! D'Argo and Chiana! Moya! Rygel! ... )

At TyTreadway.com there is a wonderful Soap Talk report on an outing of Ty fans to the show during the same weekend of the Farscape Creation Convention in Burbank. I'd really love to get Ben Browder on Soap Talk (which is on SoapNet). I think Ty and Ben, onstage together, would make an interesting combo. Having met Ty, I can honestly say he is as down-to-earth, intelligent, caring and genuine as he appears. :D ... What a Weekend

Well, I missed the VP at Katya's on Saturday! My niece sitting and grandma duties ran late. I heard, though, it was a fun time by all, and Sean narrowly missed major spoilage. *g*

Sunday was interesting. Ella came for a visit, and Tigger ended up licking the top of her head. It was fascinating to watch and maybe a bit nerve-wracking for my sis. lol I would give more details, but they probably aren't very worthwhile to anyone but us. *vbg* Sunday also found us watching For Me and My Gal with Judy Garland and Gene Kelly. That was a first for me; I'd never seen that movie before! This put us in the mood for some Fred and Ginger fun, so we popped in Shall We Dance. It's a hilarious movie! or at least I think so. We laughed out loud at Cecil Flintridge trying to explain where he was to confused manager Jeffrey. *g* Such a great movie! and it has one of my favorite scenes, roller skating in the park during "Po-tay-to, Po-tah-to" (hee hee)! Can't say more just in case you haven't seen it! Of course, we followed that with The Philadelphia Story! Fantastic performances all around! :)

My mom showed me a dollar bill full of little "love notes" scribbled on it that she found. I'd forgotten that people sometimes write messages on their money. lol So, of course, I wrote various Farscape-related things all over mine before I went to bed. ;)

Speaking of which, FS rumors are readily becoming reality. Supposedly there's a press conference by Henson later this week. No news was leaked at the con, but plenty was hinted at. *g* Head on over to FMD, Kansas, or the Dom for con reports of all kinds. :) Sounds like the con was a success and everyone, including the guests, had a good time. :)

On another note, my grandmother went into the hospital last night, but all's well. She should be home today. ;)
