The Walk for Hunger: 2010
Only three more days until The Walk for Hunger!
On Sunday May 2, I'll be participating in Project Bread's The Walk for Hunger for the 19th year. I'm hoping to raise $500 in donations. :) There's still time to make a donation for The Walk. Donations are tax-deductible, too, for next year's taxes if you itemize. ;) Any amount will help.
I know not everyone can make a donation, but every dollar counts. It really adds up!:
» $20 provides 40 people at a soup kitchen with a bowl of hot soup and a sandwich.
» $100 provides a week's supply of groceries for five families.
» $500 allows a community health center to provide immediate food assistance to 25 hungry families.
» $1000 permits a food pantry to give a week's supply of groceries to 50 families in need.
Many thanks to everyone who has made a contribution so far!

Green Daughter of the Sea
Well, I decided to actually try one of the Sunday Postcard Art challenges. :) This week's theme is Mermaids. My entry is very simple. Not much to it really. I used a torn dictionary page, painted with blue watercolors and featuring "sea" words, added an ArtChix Studio mermaid and text (a nod to Ovid's description of the "green daughters of the sea"). The little shell is also from ArtChix, and since I often have bleeding of images occur when using Diamond Glaze, I applied a thin coat of Modge Podge first then added a bit of Glaze so the shell would pop, a little attempt of adding depth/dimension to the image. Finally, the mermaid, words and "ocean" were coated with Modge Podge before the little shell was added.
In any case I'm happy with the finished product. With practice I'll feel a bit braver and will venture out of my safety zone. For now, this is good. :)
